The Chesterfield Community Roast Team is a volunteer group that organises a monthly event to serve a cooked Sunday roast for the local community.
This initiative originated in 2021 from the idea of reducing isolation, and with the dedicated efforts of a few individuals, it has become a reality.
Every month, we come together to cook and serve lunch for approximately 60-90 people.
Our regular attendees greatly anticipate these gatherings as it serves as a highlight in their month and provides an opportunity for social interaction. For many, this event is crucial as it may be the only occasion where they can engage with others.
We cater to individuals facing financial difficulties by offering a hot meal, and we also welcome families, those who are socially isolated, people with disabilities, long-term conditions, and individuals dealing with mental health challenges.
If ever there are any meals left, we deliver to the homeless later in the day.
Our volunteers, who often include those who have directly benefited from the initiative, have found purpose and fulfilment through their involvement.
In addition to the monthly roasts, we contribute to various community projects such as suicide prevention, flood response efforts, and organising soup nights for various local events.
Our ability to continue these activities relies solely on the support and donations from our community.
Our space has evolved into a welcoming environment where individuals can engage in conversation, enjoy a meal, have a cup of tea, indulge in some cake, and even participate in activities like singing and bingo.
